Porsche-inspired dining space blends design, light, and acoustic comfort
When the design team was first approached by the client, the vision for Carreras Restaurant was bold but undefined: create a dining space inspired by the iconic Porsche Carrera. The restaurant would reflect not only the visual elements of the car but also the feeling of driving one—refined, exhilarating, and immersive.
The site for the restaurant featured a fully glazed façade—a striking architectural feature that welcomed natural light but also posed serious acoustic challenges. From the outset, it was clear that without acoustic interventions, the space risked becoming uncomfortably loud once in use.
Restaurants are inherently social spaces—and often noisy ones. For Carreras, the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, while beautiful, was a major contributor to echo and sound reverberation. During initial site visits, it became clear that managing the acoustic environment would be critical to ensuring a refined dining experience that matched the Porsche-inspired brand.
Additionally, the client wanted a design-forward solution—one that enhanced the ambiance without drawing attention to the acoustic treatment itself.
The interior designer collaborated with Hush Acoustics to install acoustic ceiling beams along the length of the restaurant’s glass façade. These beams were fabricated from felt with a woodgrain finish, aligning with the warm, high-performance aesthetic of the Porsche Carrera theme.
The visual result is seamless—many patrons don’t realize the beams are acoustic at all. Instead, the treatment enhances the room’s atmosphere while quietly performing its function. Sound levels were immediately improved, with the client remarking that even during ongoing construction, the space felt significantly quieter the day after installation.
Using a preexisting sample kit from Hush, the designer was able to swiftly and confidently select finishes with the client, allowing the project to stay on schedule and on brand.
“One of the things I appreciate most about Hush is that they frequently ensure that I have an up-to-date sample kit of their products, which lets me be sure I have a wide variety of acoustical options for my clients.”
